The actions of official Stockholm have no effect on the U.S. position on the early accession of Sweden to NATO.
At a briefing, State Department Deputy Spokesman Vedant Patel commented on the permission from the Swedish authorities to hold an action in Stockholm with the burning of the Koran on the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
According to the representative of the Department of State, Washington considers these actions as disrespectful but the position of the US government on the soonest entry of Sweden into the North Atlantic Alliance is unchanged.
Earlier President Vladimir Putin said that disrespect to the Koran is a crime in Russia, unlike in other countries. He referred to Article 282 of the Criminal Code, which establishes responsibility for inciting inter-religious and inter-ethnic hatred.
