According to the Bild newspaper, whose authors refer to research data of the Association of Bavarian Economy, if gas imports from Russia are stopped, Germany will lose 5.6 million jobs and the country's GDP will shrink by 12.5%.

According to Michael Bemer of Prognos AG, the German authorities underestimated the country's dependence on Russian gas. According to the studies, the experts took as a basis the probability of ending imports from July 1, 2022.

In this case, Germany's steel, food and glass industries would be seriously affected. In this case Germany would lose about 49 billion euros.

In addition to industrial problems, this would also disrupt supply chains in other sectors, which would result in a loss of another €144 billion.

Böhmer believes that the country would be in recession in this situation.
