Germany wants to close ski resorts in Europe for new year

This is due to the coronavirus pandemic. Some countries supported Merkel, but it will be difficult to negotiate with some others.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel made a proposal in the Bundestag to close all ski resorts in the European Union during the New Year holidays due to the second wave of coronavirus.

Some countries have agreed with Germany, and some have yet to be agreed. Austria, for example, is more likely not to want to give up resorts.

In Berlin, they propose to limit tourist trips until January 10. This is stated in the document adopted after the meeting of Merkel and the heads of regions of Germany. It also states that it is best to abandon all unimportant trips - not only tourist, but also professional.

In Italy, the idea was supported and added that it was important to talk with the EU about this issue, otherwise tourists would go abroad and bring coronavirus from there. France also reacted. Austria and Switzerland (it is not a member of the EU) opposed.
