California inmates receive billion dollars in unemployment benefits

This was the largest fraud in the history of the state. The damage suffered by the region's budget can exceed a billion dollars.

California revealed the largest case of fraud in the history of the state: prisoners were able to receive unemployment benefits in prisons. The amount paid by him is estimated at a billion dollars or more.

Prisoners experimentally checked that their names did not correlate with the names of the applicants for the allowance. They were not supposed to pay this money, but they received it quite legally.

It should be clarified who exactly received the benefits. For six months - March - August - prisoners sent 35 thousand appeals for support.

Even those sentenced to death asked for money - these are 133 people and 420 thousand dollars. Sometimes money came directly to the prison, and sometimes benefits were requested in the name of acquaintances.

The convicts used non-real insurance numbers and fictional names, including "dirty pants" and John Dow (used by police to name an unknown male identity in the investigation of the case).
