Radioactive water drain from Fukushima Daiichi NPP is delayed indefinitely

Protests of fishermen forced the Japanese authorities to postpone the discharge of water from the Fukushima Daiichi NPP.

Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshi Kajiyama said on October 23:

"We are not at a stage when we can announce specific deadlines for a decision. We want to continue the consideration of this matter."

Representatives of the fishing industry, local residents and the authorities of coastal municipalities expressed their concern over the discharge of radiation-treated water into the Pacific Ocean. Protests were also expressed by the international organization Greenpeace.

We remind that ten days ago the Japanese government published a decision to discharge water cleared of radioactive particles from Fukushima Daiichi NPP into the ocean due to lack of space for the installation of new reservoirs.
