A man in the U.S. was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for putting his feet on a desk in the office of the speaker of Congress

At issue is 63-year-old Richard Barnett of Arkansas. The former firefighter was involved in the riots that took place on Capitol Hill in January 2021.

The man was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison. Fox News reports that Barnett was found guilty of eight charges in January 2023.

He could have gone to prison for up to 20 years. At the same time, federal prosecutors asked that the man be sentenced to more than seven years in prison, as well as three years of parole.

Recall that the Washington riots took place on Jan. 6, 2021. They ended with the storming of the Capitol.

Then it became known that Democratic candidate Joe Biden won the presidential election.

During the rioting, the convicted Richard Barnett broke into the office of Nancy Pelosi, who was the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives at the time.

The man took her chair and put his feet on her desk. A photo of the moment quickly went viral on social networks.

Earlier it was reported that the U.S. is worried about a repeat of the storming of the Capitol after the presidential election in 2024.
