In Naples, protesters against COVID restrictions threw smoke bombs at police

Italian restaurateurs and shopkeepers went to a protest against restrictions that the authorities want to resume due to the threat of coronavirus.

A peaceful rally on San Giovanni Maggiore Square ended in clashes with law enforcement officers. Protesters beat police cars, threw smoke bombs and firecrackers. The aggressive behavior of the crowd forced law enforcement officers to use tear gas.

The protest was caused by the decision of Governor Vincenzo De Luca to introduce another self-isolation regime in the region. The previous quarantine lasted almost three months in Italy. Business owners disagree with government measures. They expressed their claims in the slogan "Whoever closes us will pay us."
