The United States is preparing for the test flight of its Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) by following its previous schedule, said Jill Hruby, head of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) at the US Department of Energy.

The NNSA is following the current schedule with the Sentinel warhead, called the W87-1, she said.

Hruby answered questions at the Senate hearing about the current status of preparations for the test flight. She noted that such flights utilize a mockup of the warhead.

The NNSA chief noted the importance of conducting the tests to stay in sync with other participants in the ICBM development program. At the same time, she did not specify the timing of this test.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry explained the nuclear exercises as a reaction to threats from NATO.
