Switzerland plans to hold referendum on payment of 7,000 euros to citizens

Residents of the Swiss canton of St. Gallen offered to pay all citizens of the country 7,500 francs (about 7,000 euros).

According to The Local portal, the authorities supported the idea by initiating the collection of signatures. According to the rules of direct democracy, if a statement collects 100,000 signatures, then the question will be put to a referendum.

Voting will end on April 22, 2021. If a referendum is held, then residents, including children, will be paid the indicated amount during the year.

The authors of the initiative believe that the measure will reduce the cost of the national currency. At the same time, it is proposed to print new bills for issuing money, and make payments without taxation.
