Japan plans to hold G7 summit in Hiroshima in 2023

Tokyo wants to draw the attention of the international community to the importance of nuclear disarmament.

The location of the summit of the Group of Seven is now known. According to Kyodo, it will be held in Hiroshima in the second half of May 2023.

It is specified that at first the G7 summit was planned for June 2023. But the date was changed due to the fact that the rainy season may affect the organization and conduct of the event. Japan will be chairing the summit. According to the Kyodo agency, Tokyo intends to draw the attention of the participants of the event to the importance of nuclear disarmament. It is likely that the schedule of the event will be announced at the meeting of the leaders of the Group of Seven in Germany, which will be held on June 26-28.

Earlier it became known that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would take part in the G7 summit via video link. The German Chancellor Olaf Scholz invited the Ukrainian leader to participate in the event during his visit to Kyiv. The President of Ukraine will speak on June 27.
