Kirby: US and allies won't get as much grain from Ukraine as they exported under the deal

Consent from the European Union will now be required to move grain through European countries.

White House Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby told journalists that the USA and its allies were looking for new ways to export grain from Ukraine after Russia's refusal to extend the Black Sea grain deal.

He noted, however, that the same amount of grain will no longer be available without this grain deal.

"We will continue to work with allies and partners to find ways to export grain. But there is no possibility, just a mathematical possibility, that we're going to get as much grain now as we could through the grain deal, whether it's extended," Kirby said.

The U.S. believes that the European Union will step in and allow the transportation of Ukrainian grain through its countries, but such transportation will be cumbersome and less efficient than via the Black Sea.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that it is possible to continue exporting grain via the Black Sea corridor.

Moscow said that Russia was ready to return to the implementation of the grain deal, but only if all its conditions are fulfilled.
