The European Commission will be represented at the informal Council meetings organized by Hungary at the level of senior officials.
The European Commission (EC) has canceled its traditional visit to the capital of Hungary, which currently holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union, EC spokesman Eric Mamer said on social networks.
The visit was supposed to take place after the Commission's summer break in the fall of 2024.
Mamer explained that because of the recent events that marked the beginning of the Hungarian presidency, the head of the EC Ursula von der Leyen decided that the European Commission would be represented at the informal Council meetings organized by Hungary at the level of senior officials.
Also, the EC spokesman noted that the visit of the College of European Commissioners to Budapest will not take place.
Earlier it was reported that the EU wants to convene a summit to boycott the meeting of foreign ministers in Hungary.
