On October 13, US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo issued a statement in which the US State Department requires research centers and other organizations working in the country and engaged in foreign policy to notify the general public about foreign funding.
According to Pompeo, the State Department wants to take this information into account in making decisions about interaction with such organizations.
In response to the US demand to notify the financing of research centers, the Russian Embassy published a counter proposal on Twitter to the Russian diplomatic mission:
"We urge the State Department to follow a policy of real transparency - to disclose the recipients of American funding. Those who influence political processes in other countries."
