The United States has failed to meet its plan to produce improved F-35 fighter jets for this year.
According to Defense News, citing Lieutenant General Michael Schmidt, the program manager, the reason is the slow production of key parts.
Developer Lockheed Martin has completed production of less than 50 percent of the upgraded F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jets that were promised this year because slow prodфuction of key parts is delaying production of the new aircraft.
Schmidt added that the firm was contracted to deliver 52 machines, but has completed production of 21 fighters.
