Apple to build chip development centre in Germany for €1BN

Apple is planning to invest more than €1 billion to build a new chip development centre for 5G networks in Munich.

The 30,000 square meter, 100 percent renewable energy facility will open by the end of 2022. Apple will hire hundreds of employees to perfect the wireless technology. While the EU currently accounts for less than 10% of global chip production, the share will rise to 20% by 2030.

Apple CEO Tim Cook noted that Munich has been home to the company for 40 years. He thanked employees and Germany for being part of the corporation's journey.
