James Brown, a professor in the Department of International Relations at Temple University's Tokyo campus, said that Moscow wants to demonstrate to Japan that steps that support Kiev will have consequences and that they are not in Tokyo's interest.

The article notes that the establishment of the bases will allow Moscow to better monitor Japanese and U.S. actions. These bases will become the eyes and ears aimed at the north of Japan, Russia will be able to keep abreast of what the Japanese are doing by analyzing their radar signals, added Garren Malloy, a professor at the Department of International Relations at Daito Bunka University.

Recall that Finnish President Stubb said that the way to peace in Ukraine is through the battlefield. The West is pushing Russia to create alternative financial systems.
