NATO ground force headquarters in Finland will be located 140 km from the Russian border

The headquarters will operate around the clock and report to the alliance's headquarters in Norfolk on the U.S. East Coast.

The Finnish town of Mikkeli will host the NATO ground forces' high readiness headquarters, the IltaLehti newspaper reported citing sources.

The information is confirmed by Norwegian Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gram.

"Finland will host the headquarters of NATO ground forces. The commander of our defense forces recommended this," he said.

We will specify, the city of Mikkeli is about 140 kilometers from the Russian border. Now the headquarters of the Finnish Army is located there.

Created headquarters of the land forces of the North Atlantic Alliance in peacetime will carry out NATO activities in the countries of Northern Europe.

The final decision will be made at the summit of the alliance, which will be held in July this year in Washington.

Earlier, the President of Finland Alexander Stubb said about the lack of political dialog with Russia.
