Special Adviser to the Italian Ministry of Health, Professor Walter Ricciardi, said on Monday, November 8, on the Sky TG24 TV channel that the country is undergoing the fourth wave of a pandemic of the unvaccinated and those who have been vaccinated a long time ago and have lost their immunity. And he believes it is possible to avoid a worsening of the situation by getting vaccinated in time.

"The fourth wave is already coming, but we can contain it. It's up to us to make sure the wave doesn't become raging like in other countries. The pandemic mainly affects the unvaccinated, as well as those who begin to lose protection after vaccination," TASS quoted the professor as saying.

Ricciardi noted that in January-February next year, the epidemic situation may worsen.

Now in Italy, 83.5% of residents are fully vaccinated, including children over 12 years old. But the pace of vaccination has slowed down, since about 7% of the population categorically do not want to be vaccinated and there are still doubts about vaccination.
