Saule Omarova declined nomination to the US Treasury

Soviet-born Professor Saule Omarova has been nominated to head the Office of Foreign Exchange Control.

On Tuesday, December 7, the White House issued a statement by US President Joe Biden, which said that Professor Saule Omarova's request to withdraw her candidacy for the post of head of the Office of Foreign Exchange Control of the United States Treasury Department was granted.

“I satisfied the request of Saule Omarova to withdraw her candidacy from the nomination for the post of head of the Foreign Exchange Control Department,” the statement said.

Saule Omarova was nominated for the post in the US Treasury by Joe Biden in November 2021.

Saule Omarova, as follows from open sources, was born in 1966 in the Kazakh SSR. Graduated from Moscow State University in 1989. In 1991 she went to the USA on a student exchange and stayed there after the collapse of the USSR.
