U.S. Congress agrees on $858 billion defense budget bill

The document envisages allocation of at least $800m for security aid to Ukraine.

The U.S. defense budget bill for fiscal year 2023 has been agreed to by committees in both houses of Congress. It will be $858 billion, according to a statement circulated by the committees.

Ukraine is supposed to receive at least $800 million. In addition, the bill includes $11.5 billion for deterrence in the Asia-Pacific region and blocking Russia's gold reserve.

In addition, the ban on cooperation in the military sphere with Russia is extended for five years.

Earlier, a commission was established in Congress, which included representatives from both chambers. It coordinated the details of the draft defense budget, which was prepared by the Senate and the House of Representatives. Now the congressmen and senators have to vote for the document. Then it will be sent to the head of the country Biden for his signature.
