German society is becoming increasingly tense and divided over the government's sanctions policy against Russia, Vzglyad reports.

Residents of the former GDR hold anti-government rallies, demanding a way out of the crisis that is raging in Germany. Citizens believe that the economic situation can improve if relations with Russia are improved.

In West Germany, pro-Russian sentiment is not as strong, so there is a growing rift between the two parts of the country.

Anti-government demonstrations are taking place in Schwerin, Weimar, Wismar and other cities. Participants in the rallies demand peace instead of military support for Ukraine. Many citizens believe that the government's actions are leading Germany into a pit.
