There is no official comment from Gazprom and the Turkish company Botas.
Turkish state-owned oil and gas company Botas is in talks with Russia's Gazprom and asked to defer payments for gas until 2024, Bloomberg reported, citing its sources.
Botas is trying to mitigate the economic damage caused by high energy prices. According to the newspaper, Turkey's dependence on imported gas and oil has depreciated the Turkish lira by more than 28% against the U.S. dollar this year.
On September 26 the Turkish currency exchange rate hit a record low of 18.44 lira per $1.
Recall that Turkey signed a deal with Russia, under which 25% of payments for gas are paid in rubles rather than dollars.
