According to Agence France-Presse, European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrel said that the EU should allocate €1bn from the European Peace Facility in order to buy weapons required by the Ukrainian troops for combat operations.

According to AFP, Borrell offered suppliers reimbursement of up to 90% if a batch of weapons for Ukraine is delivered to the conflict zone by a certain deadline.

It is also known that the money, which the head of the European diplomacy calls for, should be spent on the purchase of 155 mm NATO caliber ammunition.

Borrell's initiative will be considered at the nearest informal meeting of the EU defense ministers.
