Despite the complicated geopolitical situation and restrictions, traveling abroad has not become an unaffordable luxury for Russians. MTS Travel analysts note that tourists have adapted to the new realities and are actively exploring alternative routes.
There are far fewer direct flights to Europe, but Russians are not discouraged. They are gladly building routes with connections in friendly countries: Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and the UAE. Among the most popular European destinations this summer are Hungary, France, Italy, Serbia and Spain.
Direct flights from Moscow to Hong Kong resumed. The geography of flights to Cuba, Vietnam, China and Jordan has expanded. Charter flights from Vladivostok to North Korea became an unusual destination this summer.
In the first half of 2024, the number of Russians' trips abroad increased by 23% compared to the same period last year. Travel to neighboring countries has also become more popular - the growth amounted to 4%.
China, Vietnam and Mauritius are the top three leaders in terms of demand growth dynamics among foreign destinations. The number of trips to China for the first six months of this year increased 3 times compared to 2023, and to Vietnam - 2 times.
