At Antalya airport, planes landed every four minutes. Employees at the airport terminal noted that pandemic restrictions had been lifted, so «demand exploded».
Turkey has become almost the "only window" to the world for Russia because of the air sanctions and sky closures. At Moscow's Vnukovo airport alone, a new plane takes off for Antalya at 10-minute intervals. These are mainly Turkish Airlines flights to the Turkish coast.
In total over the weekend Antalya alone received 115,000 tourists and 565 planes. According to local tourism expert Recep Yavuz, the intensity of air traffic on Saturday was reminiscent of 2019.
Sixty-eight flights came from Germany, 58 from Russia, 42 from Poland and 34 from Britain. In all, tourists came from 38 countries, mostly from Europe.
Over the weekend arrived 25 thousand Russians and 28 thousand from Germany. Recep Yavuz noted that such an influx in two days is an important indicator both for Turkey and for world tourism.
