Russian Ambassador to Turkey Alexei Erkhov recommended taking out insurance when visiting the country. He said that this would help not only to save money, but also to avoid many problems.

As an example, Erkhov told about a Russian tourist who was diagnosed with liver coma, liver cirrhosis and hepatitis C upon arrival in Turkey. As a result, the man was charged a "literally astronomical bill" for medical services, RIA Novosti quoted the ambassador as saying.

In addition, Erkhov called on Russians to comply with the laws of Turkey, while they are on holiday in this country.

In particular, we are talking about entrepreneurs who offer various services to other compatriots without the permission of local authorities. For example, taxi drivers and realtors.

Erkhov reminded that foreign tourists are under close scrutiny in Turkey.

"And in Russia you can easily get "offence", but here you are not at home. The locals pay more attention to you," he emphasised.

The head of the Federation of Hoteliers of Turkey Erkan Yaggi said that the Turkish authorities have decided to abandon the traditional image of a country that provides cheap tourist services. Despite this, Russian tour operators sold 60 per cent more summer tours to Turkey than in the same period in 2023.
