However, there is an alternative - the Mauritanian Train du Desert, or "Desert Train", which has been transporting goods and passengers across this unimaginable expanse since 1963. For many Mauritanians, it is the only way to travel. Passengers can purchase a seat in the passenger cars, but many prefer to travel in open freight cars to enjoy the views and experience the desert atmosphere up close.

The train route spans 704 kilometers and takes about 14 hours one way. The train has an impressive length of 2.5 kilometers, making it one of the longest and heaviest trains in the world. Several trains depart daily from the port of Nouadhibou to Zouerat across the Sahara.

Traveler Katia Snap, describing her experience of traveling on this train, emphasizes that such adventures always change your perception of the world. Being in the middle of the desert, passing dunes and silent expanses, you can feel inexpressible excitement and inspiration. However, you should be prepared for the dust, which can be uncomfortable, but you can cope with it with a handkerchief for your face and, preferably, a respirator. You should also take into account the significant temperature differences between day and night and try to organize a cozy place to rest.

The entire trip through the Sahara leaves an unforgettable experience and opens new horizons for travelers. Africa is a unique place worth exploring and immersing yourself in its culture and way of life. And, just as importantly, traveling to such countries can be very economical, except for airfare costs.
