Anti-tourist riot erupts on Spanish island resort

Before setting off on their Easter vacation, travelers from the UK probably didn't expect to encounter such a pronounced anti-tourist sentiment and graffiti when they arrived on the island of Tenerife, which seemed like a paradise destination.

Locals in the Canary Islands have declared war against visitors, claiming they are fed up with British tourists who prefer cheap beer, lying in the sun and low-quality food. They also express dissatisfaction with the noise and litter that accompanies the masses of vacationers.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, locals were clear: "Enough is enough." They are demanding a temporary ban on tourism, a tourist tax and tighter controls. In recent days, a wave of anti-tourist graffiti has appeared near resorts calling for "tourists, go home" and "too many guiris".

Guiri is a Spanish slang word often used to describe uncouth foreign tourists. Locals are expressing their demands through protests, such as this week's planned "Save La Tejita" rally in Santa Cruz and other events planned for the near future.

The main grievance is the rising cost of renting and buying homes, forcing locals to look for a solution to the crisis. Such problems as traffic jams and pollution of nature also remain relevant and are discussed in the context of the anti-tourist movement.

Earlier, Russians were told about the mistakes they make in Cuba. Also a Russian woman shared an unusual experience of vacation in Bulgaria. And also because of the drought in the Canary Islands was declared a state of emergency.
