City Hall plans to raise it to 12.5 percent next year.
Amsterdam City Hall plans to raise the tourist tax to 12.5% of the cost of a hotel room next year. The fee will be the highest among the EU countries and the fourth highest in the world. This was reported by DutchNews.
Now the amount of tourist tax is equal to 15 euros. After the increase for a day's stay in a room costing 175 euros will have to pay an additional 22 euros.
In addition, the administration of Amsterdam plans to increase the cost of the fee from the passengers of cruise ships - 11 euros instead of eight.
The capital of the Netherlands plans to earn at least 65 million euros with the help of tourist taxes next year.
The financial director of the Amsterdam City Hall Hester van Bueren said that the main purpose of the tax increase is not to fight tourists. According to him, then there would be less money. The city wants to cope with the large number of tourists who come for one day.
More than 20 million people are expected to visit the Dutch city this year. Most of them come to the Dutch capital for a day.
By the way, next year will increase the tourist tax in Greece. The maximum amount will be equal to 10 euros.
