In 2021, the athlete changed her Russian citizenship to Georgian.
Singles figure skater Anastasia Gubanova has been recognized as Georgia's best female athlete in winter sports in 2023, according to the website of the country's National Olympic Committee.
"It is a great honor for me to represent Georgia. I want to express my huge gratitude to the Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports," the athlete said, speaking at the awarding ceremony.
She made her speech in both Georgian and Russian languages.
This year 21-year-old Gubanova won the European Championships and thus became the first athlete in the history of Georgia to bring the country a gold medal in women's figure skating.
Kamila Valieva performed a demonstration number to the soundtrack of the TV series "Word of a Patsan".
