Qatar's World Cup is a headache for the executive branch

In the face of mounting criticism, the government does not want to give the impression that it approves of the terms of the 2022 World Cup, but cannot completely abandon them.

One minister dodged the question of whether to boycott the competition, as demanded by a series of calls to condemn the conditions of workers on construction sites (6,500 deaths, according to a February 2021 investigation by The Guardian, a figure disputed by Doha) and environmental deviations, Le Parisien reports.

Needless to say, the controversial World Cup, which will be held in Qatar from the end of November, is causing confusion in the ranks of the government and the majority.
