The 34-year-old world champion with the German national team decided to end his career as a soccer player.
In his Instagram account (a social network banned in Russia), German midfielder Mesut Ozil confirmed information about the decision to end his career as a soccer player. Last summer, the midfielder joined Turkish soccer club Istanbul Başakşehir as a free agent.
It is known that in the 2022-2023 season of the Turkish championship Ozil played only four matches in which he could not mark a productive game.
"In the last weeks and months, as I suffered several injuries, it became increasingly clear that it was time to leave the big soccer arena," he reported.
As a player, Mesut Özil has played for Germany's Schalke and Werder, Arsenal of London, Real Madrid and Turkey's Fenerbahçe and Başakşehir.
As a member of the German national team, the midfielder became a world champion in 2014.
