The agency explained that Russia will not pay the contributions under the previous conditions.
According to the press service of the Russian sports ministry, the annual fee of 1.2 million dollars to the World Anti-Doping Agency will not be paid.
The ministry explained that the amount was calculated based on a special scale, which is set by the Council of Europe, but on March 16 last year Russia withdrew from this body.
"In accordance with the decision of the executive committee of WADA in 2023, the annual contribution of the Russian Federation should amount to $1,267,023," the press service noted.
The agency forms its annual budget on the basis of the Copenhagen Anti-Doping Declaration, which was adopted in 2003, but this document has no legal force at the state level.
At the same time, the Russian side made a proposal to work out a mechanism for payment of contributions by countries that are not members of the CoE. If the initiative is agreed upon and a common approach is defined, Russia will pay the necessary amount to WADA.
Earlier, Oleg Matytsin, who heads the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, said that an order of Russian athletes will be able to compete at the Olympic Games in 2024.
