The Russian national soccer team has learned its possible opponents for the semifinals of the tiebreaker for access to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Valery Karpin's team was among the seeded teams along with Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Wales and Scotland.
Thus, in the semifinals of the knockout round, the Russian team may meet with Turkey, Poland, Northern Macedonia, Austria or the Czech Republic, which are among the unseeded teams.
It is worth noting that Ukraine is also not among the seeded teams, but cannot meet with the Russian team, as these teams are divorced in any draw of soccer tournaments.
This year, the knockout rounds will be played in three tournaments with four teams each. They will start with the semifinals, and three of the 12 national teams will qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.
The draw for the knockout rounds will take place on November 26 in Zurich. The semi-finals will be held on March 24, 2022, and the finals - March 29, 2022.
In the first meeting the Russian team will play at home, and the place of the final match will be decided by a draw.
