As noted, the Russian tennis player displaced Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz from the leading position. The 27-year-old Russian has 3480 points.
Medvedev came out on top after defeating German Alexander Zverev. The meeting of the rivals took place in the 1/8 finals of the ATP Masters series tournament in Rome (6-2, 7-6 (7-3)).
Medvedev will play in the fourth quarter against Germany's Yannick Hanfman, who had previously knocked out Russia's Andrei Rublev. The match will be held on May 18.
