The saga with the dismissal of Rui Vitoria from the post of head coach of Moscow «Spartak» is over. The Portuguese mentor has resigned.
"Rui Vitoria has officially left the post of head coach. He will go down in club history forever as the coach who led the team to the Europa League playoffs from first place in the group. "We thank Rui Vitoria for this achievement," said a statement published on Spartak's official website.
The statement also said that Spartak now requires a new vector of development to rectify the situation in the RPL standings. "The need for change has forced the parties to search for a solution that would suit everyone and benefit the team," the statement said.
Along with Rui Vitoria, his assistants Arnaldo Teixeira, Sergio Botel, Luis Esteves and Walter Dias are leaving Spartak. Spartak ranks ninth in the Russian league with 23 points.
Earlier it was reported that Rui Vitoria was refusing to leave Spartak. However, the coach was fired and Paolo Vanoli is expected to be appointed to his position.
