The queen's death has had a major impact on sports in England. Several soccer matches scheduled for this week have been postponed. They will take place after the country is in mourning.
As the country mourns the death of Queen Elizabeth II, whose funeral is scheduled for next Monday, September 19, English football has been hit again by several postponements of European and national matches, according to Le Figaro. The first rescheduled meeting was the Europa League match between Arsenal and PSV Eindhoven, scheduled for Thursday, September 15.
On Sunday, UEFA had already announced a 24-hour postponement of the Champions League day 2 game between Glasgow Rangers and Napoli “due to national mourning restrictions” following the Queen's death. Chelsea later confirmed that their Champions League match against Salzburg would go ahead as planned, with the consent of the authorities.
"Seven out of ten Premier League matches scheduled for this weekend will be played, but three matches will be postponed due to events surrounding the Queen's funeral," the Premier League organizer wrote.
