Earlier, on July 22, the second virtual air racing tournament “VIRAGE” started. At this stage (from August 9 to August 16), the finals of the “Air Fleet Cup” are held on the basis of the procedural flight simulator DCS: World, created by the Russian company Eagle Dynamics.
Alexander Gorbachenko, director of the Intercontinental Cybersports League, lecturer at the cybersports department of Synergy University, former president of the Russian and Moscow computer sports federations, and a leading Russian expert in the field of computer sports, noted in an exclusive conversation with RuNews24.ru that “now, thanks to the support of specialized sports federations and manufacturers of aviation equipment in Russia, there is an increase in competitive activity in the field of aviation simulators and a growing interest in them on the part of aviation enthusiasts.”
“This gives hope that it will be possible to bring back mass interest in aeronautics in our country. In addition to increasing the number of participants and spectators of aerial competitions, it also allows for the creation of useful educational content. Both historical and patriotic content. After all, it is in Russia that all the best combat flight simulators have been created - from WWI airplanes to modern aviation. They are distinguished by the highest level of detail of flight physics, avionics and weaponry. These are actually ready-made simulators for pilots of certain types of airplanes like Il-2, Yak-52 and L-39”, - the expert commented on the event.
Recall, the competition is held in the Digital Combat Simulator World. In the period from July 22 to August 8 training flights were held, and from August 9 to 16 - qualifications. Based on the results of the qualifications, the top 10 pilots will advance to the finals.
The final competition is scheduled for August 18, the Day of the Russian Air Fleet.
