The International Testing Agency (ITA) retested the doping samples of athletes who competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Some athletes lost their awards.
The organization's investigations began back in 2018. It found 73 anti-doping rule violations, 21 of them in Russian athletes.
After the second analysis of doping tests, 15 medals were taken away from Russian athletes. Also, 11 medals were forfeited to Belarusian athletes and seven to Ukrainian athletes. In total, 31 athletes were stripped of their medals.
A total of 46 medals were redistributed: eight gold, 16 silver and 22 bronze.
Specialists examined 2,727 doping samples for the second time.
