Russian rowers will not go to the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.
Russian rowers refused to participate in the qualifying competitions for the Olympic Games in Paris this summer. This is reported by the telegram channel of the Russian Rowing Federation (FGSR).
It is reported that this was a joint decision of the coaching staff and the athletes themselves, adopted following a discussion at a general meeting.
The FGSR statement notes that the athletes wish to participate in Olympic competitions on general grounds, and not on discriminatory "with unknown consequences", implying financial penalties for their violation. With such a statement of the question, there can be no positive decision, said the president of the federation Alexei Svirin.
Earlier, March 28, 2023, the IOC Executive Committee recommended international sports federations to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes, not supporting the special operation and not associated with the military and security forces as neutral athletes, to participate in international competitions.
