The NHL championship game between the Carolina Hurricanes and the Washington Capitals took place at PNC Arena in Raleigh and ended with a shootout win for Carolina. Washington forward Alexander Ovechkin scored one goal in this game, moving one step closer to Gordie Howe's record for most goals scored by a club. The Russian forward now has 785 goals while Howe had 786 for the Detroit Red Wings. The puck was Ovechkin's fifth of the season and 785th of his career in the NHL championships.
