The State Duma will consider a bill requiring athletes to have a compulsory knowledge of the text of the Russian anthem and to take an oath as candidates for the national team. The initiative was developed by deputies Dmitry Svischev, Anton Shipulin, Amir Khamitov, Sergey Burlakov, Rima Batalova and Rustam Kalimullin. The document has already been published on the official website of the State Duma.
The explanatory note to the bill notes that such measures are aimed at supporting the Russian sports movement, which faces "politically motivated international pressure." The authors of the initiative also emphasize that Russia continues to actively organize competitions, adhering to the principles of fair sport, reports "BUSINESS Online".
Note that on the same day the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected the appeal of the Russian side regarding the deprivation of the Russian national team of "gold" medals of the Beijing Olympics for the team figure skating tournament. As a result of Kamila Valieva's disqualification, the Russians were moved from first place to third.
