The award is named in honor of RT Arabic correspondent Khaled al-Khatib, who tragically died on July 30, 2017, while covering the Syrian army's operations against militants of the Islamic State terrorist group (the organization was recognized as a terrorist organization by the Russian Supreme Court on December 29, 2014). The competition recognizes outstanding news videos of up to ten minutes in length, shot in combat and conflict situations.

The winners of the Khaled Alkhateb International Memorial Awards 2024 will receive cash prizes and the opportunity to visit Moscow as part of an exchange program with RT TV channel.

Maya Manna, head of RT Arabic, said that the award was established in memory of Khaled Alkhateb, who gave his life to cover the conflict in Syria. The application form and terms of participation can be found on the official website of the award: https://award.rt.com.

Applications are open from July 30 to October 1, 2024, and the results will be announced in December 2024.
