The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden has suspended the issuance of export licenses to American companies for the Chinese corporation Huawei.
According to the British newspaper Financial Times, citing sources, the United States administration has temporarily stopped the issuance of export licenses to American companies for the Chinese Huawei.
Sources told the publication that this move brings Washington closer to imposing a complete ban on the sale of U.S. technology to Huawei. The White House took this measure in an attempt to intensify joint efforts with allies to slow China's technological development, particularly in the field of AI and hypersonic weapons.
For the last few years, Huawei has been under strict U.S. sanctions. On May 17, 2019, the U.S. Department of Commerce blacklisted the Chinese corporation because of a threat to national security, which limited Huawei's ability to purchase high-tech equipment in the United States. Subsequently, this ministry issued and then renewed the general license several times, which renewed the right to service networks and provide software updates for the company's gadgets.
