It is reported that for 45 days the city goes into the polar night.
Every year Norilsk plunges into the darkness of the polar night for 45 days, but now it is illuminated thanks to the efforts of Nornickel, writes Lenta.ru. According to company representatives, bright lighting has been installed at more than twenty sites, including administrative buildings of the Oktyabrsky, Taimyrsky, Mayak, Komsomolsky and Skalisty mines, as well as chimneys of the Nadezhda Metallurgical and Copper Plants and other facilities.
The press service of the company also noted that the color of the buildings' illumination can change, specially adjusting to public holidays.
Works on installation of new light constructions continue, and in total it is planned to illuminate about 80 objects.
Polar night occurs every year above the Arctic Circle, when the sun does not rise above the horizon for longer than a day. Its duration is different for different regions and depends on the location in relation to the Earth's rotation axis. For example, in Murmansk polar night lasts from December 2 to January 10, amounting to 40 days, and in Norilsk it lasts 45 days.
Recall that earlier officials told why they cut down the fir tree on the plot of a resident of Minyar.
