Mazhuga noted that social studies is not always a major subject for future teachers. And the introduction of specialized USE will increase the number of tests for graduates who want to get pedagogical education.
According to Rosobrnadzor, the most popular subject of the USE in 2024 was social studies - 43.8% of graduates took it. The popularity of this discipline is due to the fact that the exam result counts for admission to universities in many areas.
Deputies and senators have proposed to cancel the compulsory social studies exam for future teachers of mathematics and physics. Such an issue was proposed to be considered by the Ministry of Education and Science.
The Ministry of Higher Education and Science determines the procedure for admission to universities. The list of entrance examinations is approved for each specialty. At the same time, applicants who chose “Pedagogical Education”, in all universities pass Russian language and social studies.
The first deputy head of the Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, Alexander Mazhuga, noted in a conversation with the “Parliamentary Gazette” that social studies is not always a specialized subject for future teachers.
The introduction of profile USE will increase the number of tests for graduates wishing to receive teacher education in mathematics and science, emphasized Mazhuga. In this regard, the question of how to avoid such a situation is being discussed.
The final mechanism should be prepared by specialized ministries, the MP said.
According to Mazhuga, there could be several options: to remove the compulsory social studies, leaving Russian, mathematics and a major subject, or to leave social studies, mathematics and a major subject, and to set a passing bar for the Russian exam. However, such decisions should be based on expert opinion, the deputy emphasized.
According to preliminary data from Rosobrnadzor, the results of the USE in social studies this year amounted to 55-56 points, the same as last year. On the scale of conversion of points into grades it is “four with a minus”.
Earlier it was reported that after retaking the USE, 112 more schoolchildren became cumulators.
