Russian Statistics Agency: the population of the Russian Federation in 2021 decreased from 146.2 million to 145.5 million people

In just the last four years, the country's population has decreased by 1.4 million people.

The resident population of the Russian Federation as of January 1 of this year amounted to 145.478 million people. According to Russian Statistics Agency, over the year it decreased by 0.5% - by almost 693 thousand people.

According to the document, which published a preliminary estimate of the resident population, published by Russian Statistics Agency on Friday, January 28, experts have recorded the decline in the population of the Russian Federation for the fourth year in a row. Previously, the maximum minus reached 686 thousand people. In just four years, the decline amounted to 1.4 million people.

At the same time, mortality in the country decreased by 1.02% last year, excluding deaths from coronavirus. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova told reporters about this on Friday.
