Vitamin D deficiency increases risk of getting COVID-19 infection

More than 80% of patients with COVID-19 were found to have vitamin D deficiency, according to a study in a Spanish clinic.

The study was conducted at Spain's Santander Hospital in the spring, during the first wave of the pandemic. It turned out that more than 80% of COVID-19 patients admitted to this hospital also suffer from vitamin D deficiency.

According to one of the authors of the work, Professor Jose Hernandez of the University of Cantabria (Spain), it is necessary to monitor cases of vitamin D deficiency in at-risk groups, as well as include dietary supplements with it in treatment courses for coronavirus.

In a video, the study results of scientific article are presented in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
