Cracks in the glacier began to appear more than 10 years ago. Earlier this year, one of them began to grow by a kilometer a day.
According to the Antarctic Survey, there is no danger for researchers on the glacier, because five years ago the British Halley Research Station was moved deep into the glacier.
According to the head of the service Jane Francis, the changes on the glacier are constantly monitored by modern equipment - among other things, specialists use data from satellites.
A breakaway iceberg may either move away from the continent or remain close to it, Francis added.
