Czech President asks Putin to deliver Sputnik V vaccine to country

Czech President Milos Zeman has asked Vladimir Putin to supply the COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V.

According to RIA News, Zeman coordinated his appeal with the country's Prime Minister Andrej Babiš before doing so.

"If I am correctly informed, this request will be granted, but, of course, certification will be needed," Zeman said, noting that he "would be quite satisfied with certification by the (Czech) State Institute for Drug Control."

It is noted that Zeman favors the "Hungarian way" of vaccination. We recall that Hungary, like Serbia, purchased Sputnik V without waiting for the certification of the drug at the European Medicines Agency. The drugs underwent only national registration.

In the Czech Republic, coronavirus was detected in 143,379 people, and 20,194 patients died. Due to the wide spread of the "British" strain of the coronavirus, the country has extended the state of emergency until 28 March and tightened a number of measures.
